6 Years Of Glee

glee-cast-photo-lea-michele-rachel-barry-twitter-ftr

I watched the final ever last episodes of Glee recently and I'm devastated actually because what are my Thursday nights going to consist of now...? Every Thursday at 9pm for six years, I'd sit in front of my TV and watched Glee; whilst a smile crept upon on my face as I knew that I was ending my day right.

I've been a GLEEK for 6 YEARS! And to see it come to an end is truly sad but every good show must have it's closing curtain, and Glee did it beautifully.

glee-seaosn-6-17

It was definitely difficult watching it knowing that Cory Monteith's unexpected death change Murphy's original plan for the series finale. However, after watching the finale, I can honestly say that I'm proud of the way things turned out for Rachel and the rest McKinley High's graduates.

The first of the two final episodes was titled "2009", as it showed us how the Glee club came to be. Whilst the second one was titled "Dreams Do Come True" because every member achieved their goal. I won't reveal anything as I know that some of you have yet to watch and cry for a few hours about the end of an incredible show.

The musical-comedy show that premiered on May 19th, 2009 and closing on March 20th, 2015 also honoured to their late cast member, Cory Monteith aka Finn Hudson just when we thought it couldn't get any better. The entire group reunited at McKinley one last time where Sue announced that the auditorium would now be named  the "Finn Hudson Auditorium" where so many life changing decisions occurred for most of the characters.

Moreover, to finally wrap it up, New Directions members from years past and present united for one last massive number. The last short of the series is the re-dedication plaque for the auditorium, the memorial plaque for former Glee club director Lillian Adler, who was Will's director and the memorial plaque for Finn Hudson.

I'd like to take this time to thank Ryan Murphy for the 121 episodes. You have changed people's lives in every way. Thank you to Cory Monteith for so gracious appearing on our screens and standing up and defending the outcasts because you knew how special, they'd one day be. To Mr. Schuester and Sue; you were the best of enemies to ever walk upon our screens. Lastly, thank you to the cast! Thank you for dedicating 6 years of your lives, so that you could film a show that represented every kind of person there is in the world.

To Pimp A Butterfly

The surprise album from the legend approved, new West Coast master, Kendrick Lamar. If I'm being honest, I was sad that the album dropped a week earlier than its original release date but I'm over it now because this meant that we got to hear the album earlier that originally anticipated.

To Pimp A Butterfly, I'd say that is a follow on from Kendrick's second album, good kid, m.A.A.d city. It's a mad, thought provoking and groundbreaking combination. Kendrick Lamar constantly proved to be one of the best to be taken seriously because he preaches the truth! This album is a true masterpiece of music.

In this review, I'm going to list my 10 favourite featuring artists and the best final surprise on the FINAL track.

Firstly, there are numerous artists on this album which makes it even incredible! Kendrick collaborated with some of hip-hop's greatest as the list of collaborations goes across the musical spectrum!

  1. Snoop Dogg is one of the West Coast legends that helped transfer the "West Coast touch" onto Kendrick. He's always been Kendrick's supporter. He laid some bars on the Institutionalized track.
  2. Flying Lotus - well, I've never heard of him until he appeared on Kendrick's album and track Never Catch Me. However, I loved and still love his aunt, the late Alice Coltrane's jazz pieces. I'm also in love with Wesley's Theory, so thank you for producing that!
  3. Terrace Martin - having appeared on mAAd city, Martin reappeared again on To Pimp A Butterfly, as he helped with the funky and jazzy grooves of the album. Martin is also influenced by the late jazz Miles Davis.
  4. Anna Wise - offered her lovely vocals on the Institutionalized and These Walls tracks. She also did some vocals on the mAAd city album.
  5. Rapsody - females are underrated way too much! Rapsody, who's one of my favourite MCs' focused on skin colour on the track of Complexion (A Zulu Love). Though the track name, itself, should've have given you a clue.
  6. Bilal - former member of the Soulquarians, which also included Erykah Badu. Bilal features on These Walls and Institutionalized. Give his A Love Surreal album a listen too.
  7. Lalah Hathaway - as a backup vocalist, she lends her pipes to Complexion (A Zulu Love) and apparently, more importantly, it's her 2008 song; On Your Own that serves as the foundation of Momma.
  8. Thundercat - a singer/songwriter. This guy is a SICK bass player! He accompanies on Wesley's Theory and These Walls. You could say that he's bass playing is... F L A W L E S S.
  9. Ron Isley - well, omfg he and James Fauntleroy...one the same track! How Much A Dollar Cost, these two both have splendid voices. Isley is somewhat of one of my favourite soul legends because of Twist and Shout (yes, it the Isley Brothers that made this a hit before the Beatles).
  10. Tupac Shakur - last but not least, ladies and gentlemen...  Kendrick has relentlessly  stated Tupac as his idol and it's no wonder that the track that Tupac appears on is Mortal Man. This track touches on the necessity of Tupac's career and it's also the longest and final track on To Pimp A Butterfly, as it is 12 minutes long. Ending with an interview as Kendrick asks the legendary rapper, questions on opportunity, evil and how he, Kendrick can understand his own place in hip hop. The true and final move, Kendrick does is call out "Pac" as it begs to spend more time with his hero.

On Your Own

Moreover, To Pimp A Butterfly kind of lines with Tupac's Me Against The World album as Kendrick's album was released March 16th, 2015; whereas' Tupac's was released March 14th, 1995. It had been the 20th anniversary of Me Against The World.

If we should perish.... and you should live on
Don't let grief consume you, only to destroy you
If we should suffer an unfortunate event...while others have no choice but to watch our downfall
We don't wish guilt upon you nor do we want you to drown yourself in sorrow
If life was to offer us anything else than what we desired... make your own path
We weren't born to follow the path left by those who walk in front of us
Life has these unfortunate series of events...
The ones that occur in the deepest and most poignant moments
150 souls
If life should become unbearable and you feel like giving up, DON'T
Don't forget that you are being led by a leader with 10 years of experience
Most of you still had your lives ahead of you, I assume that among you were wise, noble people that were going to change the world
Let go of your anger, let go of your ego and let go of your sadness
Returning from an exchange were 16 beautiful souls accompanied by 2 knowledgeable teachers
2 innocent, graceful and full-hearted souls of happiness
Life knows no sadness... believe this, I hope neither do you
150 souls
Loved ones light candles... gathering flowers to lead you home
Though a void has been entrenched within them and some will build a memorial in honour
of you
Knowing that you aren't coming back home...
That your smile, and that the laughter in your eyes that you used to shield the dejection when you were down will never be seen again
130 souls hoping to go home, and for one more time...and touch their loved ones
A chance that now will never come, a chance that now dwells in the mountains that were once so flawlessly placed...they still are, but...
150 souls
If life should bear no despair... we should follow the same suit
But...we are not life, we are living life
We should grieve because we are hurting
We are hurting because our loved ones now lie serenely but not with us
They lie in the ever so beautifully crafted Alps
Flight 370, Flight 1086, Flight 235, 2015 Eglin Air Force Base, 2015 Los Llanos Air Base, 2015 Syrian Air Force An-26, Villa Castelli collision
If we should suffer an unfortunate event... like this unfortunate event and like those before us,
We have a choice to stand in unity and comfort each other in these vulnerable times
150 souls

This Year...I'm Going To Learn How To Live #HappySunday

  1. Have more four a.m. dance parties by yourself. With your siblings. More late nights laughing with friends, more bonfires and fireworks, more stupid choices and lessons learned. Enjoy your youth a little more.
  2. Stress less. Cry less over homework, over projects procrastinated and tests piling up; save up all those tears for laughter, for unbearable happiness. Be okay with less than perfect.
  3. Learn to eat that second cookie. Know when to load up on the greens and cut out the crap, and when to let go. Enjoy eating, taste everything. Stop stepping on the scale.
  4. Be more vulnerable. Stay up all night just to figure out the universe, talk about everything. Find that person: the one to tell everything. Then, tell them everything. Find relief in being understood.
  5. Be more than silly. Take that risk to go to a karaoke night though you can't hit the notes. Dance like nobody's watching (chances are, they're not). Speak your mind even when you feel your voice trembling. Be BOLD!
  6. Breathe. Go for walks every week, look at the stars whenever they're out, take bubble baths. Find a space and don't let anyone take it away. Live in the moment and love every second of it.
  7. Love yourself. Every last scar and bump. Every missed questions and failed idea, every little quirk. Love yourself until you understand why others love you too.
  8. Survive. Thrive.

Pick Your Head Up And Please Don't Care by Baqlis

Pick your head up and don't cry please,
And no, it's not because that mascara's expensive
And that guy are not near excessive
No, they don't matter
It's okay because your heels still clatter
But every time you stutter
You flinch
Because the rise frightens you
That hand compromises every hue
Making you red, purple and blue
Convincing yourself "he's not cruel"
And in actual fact
Baby, he doesn't love you, he loathes you
Unclothes you, and convinces you that he still adores every part of you
But that word is out of line and darling, you're out of time
That hand clenches and your body condenses
And before you know it you're sitting and sniffing your own blood, drowning in tears that will soon flood

Your tears speak more than you do
And that lack of communication is killing your whole nation
And to him your another station no longer a destination
He uses and chooses what spot he can rot away
And in between those legs what was a tempest now decays

Honey, it isn't your fault...he's built on a foundation of insecurities and faults
And his sick cure is destroying beauty at its greatest decor
You're not the only one he sticks it in and sticks them with colours that were once beaming rainbows to only black and blue showing nothing but contradicting love

Look up and clear those eyes and realise through his fake lies
That you are not the only one he's left with a maybe son
Crushing your worth destroying your beauty made earth
With something barely scarce
It's time-consuming and nothing's really moving
But he finds it amusing
You're the only one losing a biased benefited war
The opposition lacks everything you've mastered as a skill
And it's all real
Because your capability is beyond his masculinity
And you don't realise you can decompose his eroding particles
He is artificial
So pick your head up and don't cry, please

Mumma's Day

Believe me when I say... raising five kids on your own isn't the easiest...
But you never once gave up on us
A hardworking woman who goes out night after night to save other's lives,
Then come back to your zoo of a house and deal with five kids with five different personalities
We haven't always been the best but damn, are grateful to have you as our mother
Never dwelling on the past...you've never once complained about how difficult your role is
It's true that we've had bad days though we can't forget the good days made from our misery

There are angels that God puts on the earth... the ones that care and guide us
If I wish for anything in the world...
It'd be that you stop, rest and let us take care of you
In the life that we are living right now, we are awakened to the higher consciousness
We have accepted the hardest of things but dwell on them even though we are surrounded by powerful women
Strong, independent and proud women have raised my siblings and me
Educating us to be the best possible versions of ourselves
God, thank you for the roses from your garden... the ones that you so lovingly plucked from the shores of your jubilee

How can we thank you?
For the never ending support, laughter and tears
We, the five of us have proved to be more than a struggle
However I believe that only someone like you, someone that's so strong yet gentle and caring could have managed us, five headstrong, know it all kids
We are what we are today because of you
We can't explain the gratitude inside for all the nights and days that you've spent by our side
Listening to us ranting about everything and anything

I can't imagine how hard of a task this has been for you but more than anything,
We have enjoyed being your kids and watching you accomplish everything you have and everything that is to come
We could never fully finish saying how thankful we are but having raised five kids that still tease each other about everything and anything,
Hopefully shows you a bit... and we'll continuing showing you the rest throughout our lives
To my mum and my aunties,
While most of us haven't had the experience of having two parents,
We have realised that didn't matter, sometimes all we need is one
Thank you for raising us as well as you knew how

Dedicated to
 the mothers of the world...
Thank you for the work you have done!
